BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has directed senior officials to prepare a strategy to promote the use of digital currency in the state. He instructed to constitute a high-level committee comprising of senior officers.
The committee would give suggestions to promote cashless transactions, to increase its acceptance in people and making it popular. The committee would comprise of additional chief secretary Deepak Khandekar, principal secretary, cooperatives, Ajit Kesri, secretary, finance, Amit Rathore, secretary to CM, Vivek Agarwal and representatives of banks.
The CM said plastic currency is the need of future to check corrupt ways of financial transactions and put a tab on black money. He said it is important to move forward in direction of mobile, point of sale machine and online payment gateway.
It is necessary to launch a campaign to make people literate, educated and motivated for its use. He directed to prepare outline of the campaign in collaboration with banks. Chouhan urged the senior officers to ponder over use of digital currency for payments in government and private sectors and also give suggestions to the government.
Chouhan said people should not face any inconvenience in availing of facilities provided by Reserve Bank of India. It was informed in the meeting that farmers will be able to purchase seeds from public sector units and other government institutions and only the notes of Rs 500 from them would be accepted. It was also informed that the time limit of RTGS has been extended to 6.30pm.
