BHOPAL: Just a day before Earth Hour on Saturday, around 200 students and volunteers of World Wildlife Fund-India (WWF-I), Bhopal organised a walkathon from WWF-I office on Friday. All the participants wore same clothes which had a message of energy conservation on them. Raising slogans, ‘Save energy and conserve energy’, the walk started from WWF office, and passing from 7 No. Stop, Campion School ended at WWF office. The main attraction of the walk was the panda mascot and volunteers dressed as peacocks, tigers and deer. Volunteer of WWF-I Nikhil Raut said, “Through this walkathon we are trying to create awareness towards the conservation of energy.”
A week before Earth Hour, WWF-I organised several events like pot decoration, poster making competition, Best out of Waste, street play etc at different places of Bhopal including Manisha Market, Boat Club, New Market, BHEL, Indrapuri, and 10 No. stop Market in which people participated in good numbers. Earth Hour is WWF’s global environmental movement to spread awareness about climate change and its consequences. This is the tenth year of Earth Hour which will be observed on March 25 from 8:30 to 9:30 pm. To get involved in Earth Day, turn off your lights for one hour at 8:30 pm.
