BHOPAL: The political parties may be claiming of giving 33% reservation to women but the women remain under represented in the government.
Out of 28 ministers in the state, there are only two women ministers, Vijay Laxmi Sadho and Imarti Devi. With this ratio, the women representation in the state cabinet is 7%.
The women representation in administration also is drastically lower than men. Out of 52 districts in the state, only 9 districts have women collectors.
They include Ruchika Chauhan in Ratlam, Anugraha.P in Shivpuri, Manju Sharma in Ashok Nagar, Priyanka Das in Morena, Preeti Maithil in Sagar, Chavi Bharadwaj in Jabalpur, Nidhi Nivedita in Rajgarh, Shanmukh Priya Mishra in Raisen and Surabhi Gupta in Dindori.
Out of 10 divisions in the state, only Kalpana Shrivastava is posted as commissioner in Bhopal while other divisions are headed by men. The same applies to the police department as only four districts have women SPs.
The representation of women during the BJP government was almost similar. Whether it is giving ticket to women during elections or their appointment in the government after winning elections, their representation has always been less.
It is first time when Chief Minister Kamal Nath got Hina Kawre, who is first women deputy speaker in the state Assembly, elected.
