Meghnagar: In a shameful act, an elderly woman from Naganvat Badi village was allegedly pulled by her hair and brutally assaulted by a group of villagers after they suspected her to be a witch, police said.

The incident occurred on Friday afternoon under Kakanwani police station limit in Jhabua district, about 50 kilometre from the district headquarters. The victim, who has been identified as Vasli, was later admitted to the Jhabua district hospital in critical condition.

Victim’s son Nanuram in his police complaint informed that accused Mangilal Damor, Mansingh Damor, Shankar Damor, Gorki Bai Damor, Rohit Damor and Rahul Damor brutally thrashed his mother over a land dispute, but to justify their action they labelled his mother as a witch.

Acting on Nanuram’s complaint, police registered case against Damor family members under Section 294 (obscene acts), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of Indian Penal Code. However, police were yet to make any arrest in the case.
