Bhopal: A 31-year-old man agent of western union money transfer was duped of Rs 2 lakh by an unidentified person by falsely promising him to exchange Indian currency for dollars. Mayur Daswani, a resident of Kolar stated in his police complaint that few days back the accused called him from an unidentified number and introduced himself as Abhishek Rajpoot and claimed to be an employee of hotel Sayaji.
He offered Daswani to exchange Indian currency for dollars. On May 20, 2018 the accused invited Daswani to the hotel and exchanged his Rs 33,400 for 500 dollars. The accused also showed Daswani a cabin which he claimed to be of hotel’s sales department, where he worked.
On 21 May the accused told Daswani that he has three thousand USD for exchange. Daswani reached the hotel with Rs 2 lakh for the deal. The accused took the money and told him that he will return with the dollars from inside. He fled the scene instead.
On realising that he has been duped Daswani confirmed with the hotel’s staff to learn that the accused never worked at the hotel. He then filed a complaint with the Kamla Nagar police on May 21 after which an FIR was lodged on Tuesday. Police has registered the FIR and is now trying to catch the accused as the entire incident was captured in the CCTV cameras installed in the hotel.
