BHOPAL: MP’s graduate youth are now applying to graze cattle for the sake of employment. Kamal Nath government’s Yuva Swabhiman Yojana has provision for pashu haakne wala or cattle-grazer in its employment scheme meant for the urban youth.
State government had touted this scheme as a revolutionary step in providing employment and as a first for the urban youth- on the lines of national rural employment guarantee scheme.
The scheme aims to provide training to the urban youth in field of their choice and then assure their employment for a specific period of time once a year. MGNREGA provides guarantee for employment of 100 days in rural areas. Yuva Swabhiman Scheme will do the same in urban areas.
Among 43 odd jobs selected for the urban youth one is cattle grazer. Bhopal district has 50 posts of cattle-grazers. Over 15 youth including graduates have applied for this job till date.
The graduate youth from Berasia town of Bhopal district said that his degree hasn’t fetched him anything yet. Considering the increase in number of cattle one finds good opportunity in this field, said the youth requesting anonymity.
Various categories under which the urban youth can apply for training vary from computer operator, office assistant to mechanic and drivers. Other jobs on the list are: office assistant, garden assistant, photographer, driver, mechanic, courier boy, fireman etc.
These youth will be given training and then given 100 days employment in the same field. Youths also have option to take up entrepreneurship in the chosen field with support of the government.
“It will be interesting to see where and how these youth will be imparted the training under pashu haakne wale category. The training module will be interesting to see like number of days for training etc,” said an official requesting anonymity.
Most ironical is the fact that when cities are being made cattle free, what this category of job aspirants will do- as the whole scheme is meant for the urban youth, he added.
