BHOPAL: Two minor school children drowned in Bhadbhada Dam, while another was rescued by police on Tuesday. They had gone to fly kites but due to scorching heat, they decided to have bath in dam to beat the heat.

Panic prevailed at Bhadbhada Dam area after the two minors drowned. The incident took place at around 1pm when the three went to take bath and started drowning. Locals rushed to their rescue and informed the police. They were taken out of water with the help of divers and rushed to a nearby hospital where two of them were declared brought dead and the third one was saved but his condition is reportedly critical. As per Ratibad police sources, Nitin  Gaur, 13, and Umesh Gaur, 11, both cousins, drowned in the dam. However, only the third boy, Vikash Yadav, 10, could have been saved.

When they were enjoying kite flying, Nitin’s elder brother Nikhil also joined them. But he did not accompany them when they jumped in dam for bath. When Nitin, Umesh and Vickey disappeared, Nikhil dialed 100 and police swung into action with entire team.

Ratibad police station in-charge Kanchan Singh Rajput said that the children were residents of Sewania Gaud village near the dam. They had gone at the dam to fly kites and later went into the water. Unable to fathom depth of water, they started drowning,” SHO added.

On getting information, the police reached the spot and started rescue operation. But two of them – Nikhil and Umesh – had died while Vikas was rescued and admitted to a hospital.  Police have registered a case and are investigating further, Rajput added.

The family members were not aware that the minors had gone to Bhadbhada Dam and they were later informed regarding the incident. Dr Umesh Sharda of Sharda Hospital said, ” Vikash Yadav who is on ventilator, is showing sign of improvement. However, he is still in critical condition despite improving.”
