BHOPAL: The city crime branch arrested a 25-year-old man and a woman for allegedly committing burglary of Rs 11 lakh from a locked house of a retired government employee in E-7 Arera Colony on Thursday. The accused woman, who used to live as a tenant in the house of the victim, had conspired with his friend and the male accused to commit the crime, the police said.
The incident took place on April 18, when the victim Suresh Singh Chandrawal had gone to Delhi with his family to attend a family function. After being informed about the incident by one of his neighbours, he returned on April 19 and found the door of his house and the lockers broken with valuables including gold jewellery, diamond jewellery and cash worth Rs 11 lakh missing. He lodged a complaint against unknown accused, based on which a case was registered by the police.
According to police, accused Poonam Rajput (name changed) was a student of BBA in a private college in Bhopal and used to live as tenant in victim Chandrawal’s house. The other accused named, Shahnawaz Hussain alias Shashank Verma, who was her friend and used to run a mobile phone shop at Jehangirabad was under heavy debt. When he discussed this problem with Poonam, she suggested him to break open into his landlord’s house and commit burglary to pay off his debt. Hussain agreed on the plan and as per plan he came to her place with a cutter machine to cut the door on April 18. He then cut the locks of the victim’s house and entered inside while Poonam stood guard to ensure nobody sees them.
After looting the valuables, as per the plan, he locked the door of her room from outside and fled. Poonam then called victim Chandrawal on his phone and told him that somebody lad locked her from outside. Chandrawal who was in Delhi, asked one of his neigbour to open the door and check what has happened.
