BHOPAL: Two-day national seminar on Gender Issues and Media, organised by Gender Justice Cell and Cell for Studies in Media Law of National Law Institute University (NLIU), ended on Sunday.
People from across the country participated in the seminar. IPS officer Aruna Mohan Roy, Director mass media, Diwakar Shukla, transgender rights activist Laxmi Tripathi, independent filmmaker Madhureeta Anand and Barkhedi Sarpanch Bhakti Sharma were the panelists. The sub-themes of the event were media coverage of crime against women, developing transgender identity through social media and gender stereotypes in entertainment industry.
During the seminar, several papers were presented. A documentary on the life of transgender too was screened. A magazine ‘Aishani’, which is a compilation of top articles and caricatures exploring the role of media in forming our perceptions of gender identities, too was launched. The best paper presentation prize was awarded to Madulika and Akruti from Jindal Global Law School for their paper titled ‘Sexuality and the Entertainment Industry’.
