Bhopal: Exemplary spirit shown by the families in Chhatarpur, Satna, Sagar and Hoshangabad has demonstrated how strong roots of democracy in India are. They exercised their franchise despite deaths in their families. The first report came from Satna where mother of Ashok Gupta, and Savitri Gupta passed away this morning. Ashok was in a dilemma for a while but took a bold decision and he first went to the polling booth to cast his vote at Tikaria Tola and later performed last rites of his mother.

In another incident from Sagar, 34 members of Singh family came to cast vote at Dilakhedi polling booth in early hours. Voters standing in the queue gave way to the family members to vote first as a mark of respect. Family head, Rooprani,75, passed away on Monday morning. Pratap Singh, Sahib Singh and Chandan Singh, senior member of the family, met and agreed to exercise their franchise first and then perform last rites. All women members of the family too agreed with the decision and went together to vote.

Pratap Singh said that voting was equally important as it will decide country’s fate for the next five years.  Similarly in Hoshangabad, Kishan of village Amupura in Seoni-Malwa too showed grit to strengthen democracy and went to vote. He lost his son Rakesh on May 5.  In another incident, a youth named Shivendra Pratap Singh of Chhatarpur, lost his father Parmanand Singh. He performed last rites of his father and also went to cast his vote at the polling station 177.
