Bhopal: Congress MLA Jitu Patwari, who recently got first-hand experience staying at Central jail, expressed concern over the deplorable and unhygienic condition prevailing there. The Rau MLA had spent a few days in jail before being released on bail recently. He was sent to jail for allegedly obstructing a public servant in performing his duties during an agitation.
Expressing his disappointment over the alleged pathetic conditions prevailing at Central Jail, Patwari, while interacting with media outside court here on Tuesday, claimed that the jail inmates were made to live in poor condition which is affecting their health. The undertrials as well as convicted are losing weight, alleged the Congress MLA , adding that the authorities were not maintaining jail manual. No steps are being taken to maintain hygiene in the prisons, said Patwari.
The Congress MLA was here to attend court hearing in connection with 10 years old case. He was charged with breach of peace and creating public disorder during a chakka jam programme organised in Indore. A special court had sent him to jail. He was later released on bail.
Accusing the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan for making hollow promises, Patwari said that he has making big announcements but never kept his words.
Living conditions in barracks are highly pathetic, the prisoners are not provided proper meal alleged Patwari. “Even the human rights team had put the jail administration in dock after the inmates had raised the issue of poor conditions prevailing in prison, however even then no steps were taken, “Said the Congress leader.
Congress leader further said that it is duty of the authority concerned to enforce jail manuals, however in reality they are running the jail affairs as per their wish and will.
