Bhopal: Religious leaders should stay away from politics says Archbishop

BHOPAL: Religious leaders should stay away from politics. All citizens should exercise right to vote to strengthen the democracy and the new government should lead the country towards fear-free environment. These views were expressed by Archbishop of Bhopal archdiocese, Leo Cornelio on Wednesday. Archbishop had invited media to extend invitation to general public for Easter Mahotsav this Sunday.

Archbishop Cornelio expressed concern on recent developments and said that feeling of insecurity has increased among people. He also expressed concern over mob lynching and appealed that people should not take law into their hands rather save lives of people in order to protect the constitutional right of each individual.  On Lok Sabha battle between Digvijaya Singh and Pragya Thakur, Cornelio replied that people should vote for a better candidate. Dividing country on basis of caste or otherwise is not in favour of nation.

Replying to a question he said that politicians should exercise restraint in their speech; they should avoid commenting unnecessary remarks on religion and caste. Talking about younger generation, he said, addiction to the drugs is a matter of concern. Archbishop also expressed his concern over fake news and said that it is destroying fabric of the nation. It is spreading negativism in the country.  He also expressed his concern on road accidents, and crime against women. He said country is suffering from water shortage and there is a need to save rain water.

Rivers should be protected, more ponds and lakes should be made to avoid water crisis in the near future, he added.  Archbishop extended Easter greetings to all invited people to participate Easter Mahotsav – 2019 to be organised by all the Christian denominations on Sunday, April 21st, at BSSS College Auditorium at 6.30 pm. Various schools and churches will present cultural, religious and devotional programs during this festival besides food stalls and games.
