Bhopal: A day after begging on the city streets, the protesting students of Advance Institute of Medical Science, slept on road under the blazing sun in front of the Governor House on Friday. Leaving no stone unturned to catch the attention of the authorities and people towards their grievances, the Medical students also resorted to selling tea at board office.

The students have been protesting for five days demanding the government to accommodate them to other medical college claiming that their institute is on the verge of closing. The protesting students said, despite our continuous protest the government was not paying any heed towards their issues.

We have complained to the DME and submitted a memorandum demanding action as it is a matter of students’ future but nothing seems to be happening, said a protesting student. The authorities have though given assurances to look into the matter but they have also expressed their helplessness in the issue, he added. Notably, the meeting of students with the officials of medical education department ended inconclusively on Wednesday.

The college, opened in the year 2016 had admitted 146 students through NEET counselling. However, MCI has debarred the college to make any admission for 2017-18 academic session. Meanwhile, the hospital of the medical college was sealed as the management failed to repay the loan. The college administration also didn’t pay salaries to its faculty and so most of the teaching staff have left the institute.

FORDA threats strike

Meanwhile, expressing solidarity towards the protesting students, Federation of Resident Doctors Association has to threatened to close down the health services completely for indefinite period if the state government fails to take cognizance of the protesting doctors and students of  the Advanced Institute of Medical Science and Modern  Institute of Medical Science, Indore.  The FORDA’s national president will meet the protesting doctors and students during his three days tour of the state on Friday.
