Around 80 Central Jail guards deployed elsewhere
BHOPAL: Government may be expressing concern over security arrangements in the Bhopal Central Jail, after the incident of jailbreak by eight SIMI under trials but the ‘Praharis’, who are supposed to guard jails, are deputed to protect government ministers, former ministers and officers.
As per the list available with Free Press Journal, at least two former jail ministers have not relieved ‘Praharis’, which were posted at their residence when they were holding the portfolio. The ‘Praharis who are supposed to secure the jail are serving former jail ministers.

The list figures Jagdish Devra, who is not a minister now, but two ‘Praharis’ have been deputed at his residence. Same is with Antar Singh Arya, who does not have jail department, but two ‘Praharis’ are deployed at his house. One Prahari is posted at CM Office and one is serving at the residence of deputy secretary to CM. As many as four Praharis are posted at the residence of jail minister.
Similarly, eight Praharis are at ADG jail’s residence while five Praharis each guard the homes of DIG, jail (legal) and DIG (establishment). Twenty Praharis are serving officers at jail headquarters. As many as 80 Praharis are serving at various places which is affecting safety in jails.
No officers is ready to comment on this issue as of now and the Praharis, who are serving at residences of their superiors, are tight-lipped.
