Hoshangabad: The municipality has decided to launch an ambitious project under which all power lines in the city would be made underground. Officials of the power company and the municipal committee inspected various locations in the town on Thursday as part of preliminary survey for the project. The municipality has set aside a budget of Rs 5 crore for the project.
Municipal committee chairperson Akhilesh Khandelwal said in different parts of the town, power lines had been laid haphazardly leading to short-circuiting which often causing fire incidents. Besides, they also come in the way of growth of trees. He said Priyanka Kakode, AE and AK Gupta, JE of the power company, along with Maheshchandra Agarwal, AE of the municipality discussed the modalities of the project on Thursday. Khandelwal said due to lack of maintenance, the power lines were in a bad shape and had led to over 50 accidents.
The survey was conducted from Shriramji Samdhi to Satrasta and at Halwai Chowk, Kori Ghat, Sethani Ghat, Mangalwara Ghat, Jumerati Kali Mandir, Morchali Chowk and Indira Chowk.
The power company will prepare a report on the basis of which work will begin. He said this project was a step in the direction of modernising the civic infrastructure of the town.
