BHOPAL: Raisen police opened cane charge and fired tear gas shells on villagers protesting installation of some electricity poles at Tamot, on Sunday. The police later arrested 12 people involved in the rampage.

SP Raisen, JS Rajput said Sagar Industries was establishing a plastic factory in Plastic Park in Obeidullahganj Industrial Area. MPEB was installing electricity poles on the agriculture land as the district administration had done work of land acquisition, also disbursing compensations to the land losers. But the villagers were protesting that the electricity poles should not cross their agriculture land, because it may create problems in farming and open up chances of electrocution. The issue was burning since five months, but on Sunday when MPEB workers reached to start their work, the villagers protested. On this, the police opened light cane charge on them and also shot tear gas shells to disburse them. Twelve people were arrested under Section 151 of CrPC, he added.
