BHOPAL: The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration has turned a blind eye to cattle rearing in posh colonies like Saket Nagar, which is ruining parks.
Despite being located in the posh Saket Nagar, the local park is in a highly deplorable condition. Some local residents who keep cows and buffalos at their homes used to herd them into the park for grazing. Now others have put locks on the main gates. Consequently, neither children nor local residents visit the park.
The park does have swings and other playthings but they are damaged. It lacks pathways so even senior citizens do not visit it.
The residents have raised the issue with the local corporator but no concrete initiative was taken for improving the park. As per the local residents, the Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration constructed a boundary wall and installed gates but that was all.
Santosh Kapole said, “The Park is in a deplorable state. Local residents do not use it as it has dense, overgrown bushes and stray animals roam inside. Some of the people rear cows and buffaloes at their homes. This should not be allowed.”
DK Khare said, “We put locks on the main gate just to prevent cattle from entering the park. Some of the residents rear cows and buffalos and dump their waste in the park. But in spite of it, the BMC does not take any action.”
SK Jain said, “It is a blot in the name of park. It lacks even basic facilities. There is no pathway in the park. The bushes have overgrown but the BMC hardly takes any interest in pruning trees and bushes”.
OP Tripathi said, “We cannot even sit outside our residences so intense is the stench from the dairies in the colony. It is pathetic that the BMC administration does not take any interest in proper maintenance of the park.”
