BHOPAL: The tenure of the Commission investigating the jail break by SIMI activists and their subsequent deaths in a police encounter has been extended by a period of six months. Earlier, Justice Pandey, who heads the one-member Commission, withdrew his resignation.
The three month term of the Commission has already ended but no significant progress has been made in the probe. The Commission was also facing shortage of manpower and resources, which had annoyed Pandey. The Commission has appealed to people to provide information about the incident to it. So far, even the statements of jail officials and police personnel as well as villagers who are claimed to have witnessed the encounter of the under-trials, have not been recorded.
