Bhopal: The state government, after facing an embarrassing situation from High Court over removal of mayor in Chhindwara, has issued notices to Gwalior mayor Vivek Shejwalkar and municipal corporation, commissioner Vinod Sharma. They have to respond to the notice within fifteen days.

Further action would be taken after they submit their response. Alleged financial irregularities against the duo include proving cash grant to individuals, and not institutions, without approval of the Council and evasion of stamp duty in auctioning of shops.

The municipal corporation had hired 101 Taxies but only one Taxi was registered under Taxi quota in registration department. The corporation had constructed large number of shops and halls but they were not auctioned, which led to loss to the corporation.

The daily wagers appointed between 2007 and 2016 were to be regularised but the mayor and the commissioner, allegedly regularised those daily wagers even appointed after 2016. After Congress coming to power in the state, a team of officers of urban administration headquarters and municipal corporations of Rewa, Gwalior and Chhindwara, had probed into the matter.

Chhindwara mayor Kanta Sadarang, on the basis of the probe report, was given notice for her removal. The mayor moved high court where the notice was quashed. The court decision came on Thursday but the notice to Gwalior mayor was issued already issued by then.

In the issue of mayor of Rewa, no action has been taken so far on the basis of probe report. When Congress came to power, it was decided that BJP leaders would be removed from Municipal Corporations and district panchayats. Municipal corporation, commissioner Anay Dwivedi and Ajay Gupta, were working during the tenure of Gwalior mayor, but they have not been served notice so far. Both these officers are currently posted as collectors.
