BHOPAL: The Central Bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) had sought updates from the state government about its e-monitoring initiative of illegal sand mining in Narmada river in the state on Friday here.

The tribunal sought the updates during the hearing of a petition filed in 2015 by social activist Vinayak Parihar against the State of Madhya Pradesh and five others regarding illegal sand mining along the Narmada river. The state government after the instructions of the tribunal had started the initiative of e-monitoring to keep an eye on any illegal sand mining in Narmada.

“The NGT during the hearing asked the state government about the steps taken for the e-monitoring for which we have sought some time from it. The government would present a report about the updates during next consultative hearing scheduled on May 4,” said counsel of respondents, Sachin Verma while speaking to Free Press.
