BHOPAL: Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) administration has put off the ongoing demolition drive being carried on for land acquisition for smart road construction, for the time being. For next 15 days, no construction will be demolished.
Local residents continued to protest the land acquisition drive for Smart Road construction from Polytechnic Square to Depot Square on Tuesday. Members of the BMC team which had gone for survey in colonies settled along the road, had to face ire from residents. Congress leader PC Sharma and other rode on JCB machines pressed for demolition of constructions for land acquisition.
As per BMC, on the request of residents, it has stopped further action due to ongoing examinations of children. BMC has made arrangements for shifting of the families to transit sites—Vajpayee Nagar, Sabri Nagar and others and when concrete houses are constructed, they will be shifted in them. However, stay in court is till March 30 and BMC administration can not demolish any kind of structure.
Corporator Shabista Sultan said, “We will not shift anywhere. First BMC administration should show us the Detailed Project Report (DPR) approved by the Centre. We have lodged protest with the BMC administration for one-sided action in the name of Smart City development.” For the time being, BMC administration has decided to postpone the demolition drive for 15 days.”
