Bhopal: A motorbike sharing scheme has been proposed for launch in Bhopal, Indore and other major cities of the state. The framework of the scheme is almost ready and trials will commence soon. This policy is primarily aimed at providing employment to the youth who know two-wheeler driving.
The scheme will offer a cheaper option than cabs for single passengers. The bikes will be fitted with GPS devices and will be linked with a mobile app. As soon as a person clicks the option of bike sharing, a message will go to nearest registered bike owner. The bike owner will then contact the passenger and drop him at his desired destination. The fare will be fixed by the transport department.
Transport commissioner Shailendra Shrivastava said that many youths are on the lookout for a part time job to supplement their income. This scheme, he said, was tailor-made for them. The youths will be able to earn some money and the people will get a cheaper mode of transporter.
Cab policy soon
The state government’s radio cab policy, which had received the cabinet nod a couple of months back, will be implemented from this month. Till now, there is no policy for radio taxis in the state and the operators are running their services on their own conditions. Under the new policy, all the cabs will be GPS-enabled so that the local police control room can get their location round-the-clock. A panic button will be installed on the back seat of the cabs, which, when pressed will sound a loud alarm.
The cabs will also have fire safety equipment. The policy also provides for fixation of the fare structure of the cab. In no case will the night charges be more than double of the day charges. Pooling of passengers will be allowed and two or more commuters will be able to hire a cab jointly and share the fare. The drivers will also be allowed to take additional passengers with the consent of the person hiring the cab.
