Bhopal: The smart poles which the Bhopal smart city development corporation limited (BSCDCL) had started installing across the city in June 2017, are yet to start operations. As many as 98 such poles have been installed till date and more than fifty per cent of the poles are non-functional.
These smart poles are equipped with several beneficial features for the civic body as well as the society. The features include cameras which can monitor the activities around it in the range of 100 meters for the parking violation detection, a display board which in case of emergency can be used for mass communication; it will also have a separate board for: advertisements, pollution level, air quality, temperature and humidity and wifi facilities.
As many as 500 such poles are to be installed in the city for which a private company Bharti Infratel was awarded the contract. Chief executive officer (CEO) of the BSCDCL Sanjay Kumar said, “We will soon ensure that these poles start function.” He said that the OFC (optical fiber cable) is being laid down and that it is a long process, for which the team is working. “We will soon connect these poles with OFC after which they will start functioning.”
