Damage windshields of 25 vehicles in MP Nagar; two accused held

BHOPAL: Four drunken men went on a rampage in MP Nagar late on Saturday night. They smashed the windshields of 25 cars and killed a 25-year-old man by knocking him down with their speeding car after brutally thrashing him. The four accused fled the scene but on Sunday two of them, including the main accused, were nabbed by the police.

According to the police, on Saturday at around 2 am, accused Shiva Patil, Bharat Soni, Chotu and Rocky came in their Innova car to Shanti Nagar area in MP Nagar where Salman Abdul (who was later killed) and Patil used to live. Patil was main accused and owner of the car while Soni and Rocky were his brother and brother-in-law respectively. The fourth accused was Patil’s friend. After coming to the area in their car, the four men armed with sticks and swords went on a rampage and damaged the windshields of vehicles parked near Sargam Talkies.

Among the damaged vehicles, one was a mini truck owned by Salman. In the night during the incident, his father Abdul Saeed received a call on his mobile phone that their vehicle was damaged by the four accused. He then rushed to the spot with his younger son and complainant Sohail Abdul. On reaching the spot, Sohail asked Patil why they damaged their vehicle as they were residents of the same locality and knew each other. The accused then started abusing him and his father on which he objected. The four accused then started thrashing Sohail with sticks and swords, inflicting injuries on his torso and face. Seeing him thus, his elder brother Salman intervened to rescue him but the accused caught him and brutally thrashed him with sticks, on which he lost his consciousness. The four then boarded their car and knocked down Salman in which he sustained serious injuries on his right leg and head, the police added.

Speaking to Free Press, Abdul Saeed said the accused had planned to kill his son. “Main accused Patil who lives in the same locality, is a jobless and rowdy person. He used to move in his car and just spend money on booze and food. On Saturday, after badly beating up my son Salman, they tried to abduct him, but failing to do so, they deliberately hit him with their car. Due to the impact of the hit, his right leg was fractured and he was thrown a few metres away that resulted in grave head injuries. The four fled in their car before the locals tried to catch them.

After a few minutes the police arrived at the scene and my son was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday at around 3 pm,” said Saeed.

Some sources close to the accused, who didn’t wish to be named, however, said Patil was enraged after Sohail wrote abusive words by scratching his car parked in the area. However, investigating officer in the case, assistant sub-inspector Devendra Narwaria denied the allegations.

“Those accounts are totally false as they would now make up stories in an attempt to save Patil. Before killing him the four damaged the windshields of 25 vehicles for no reason. The police after registering the case under relevant sections of IPC have arrested Patil and Rocky on Sunday evening and investigations are on to nab the absconding two accused. And now as one person has unfortunately died, more sections would be added in the case against the accused,” said Narwaria.
