Bhopal: On Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday on Sunday, revenue minister Uma Shankar Gupta launched construction of toilet at Kamal Singh Uike’s house in Sevania-Gaud under ward no 26. During visit to the state capital on August 20, BJP national president Amit Shah had visited Uike’s house along with chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and state party president Nandkumar Chauhan and had enjoyed daal-baati, baigan bharta, Kadi-chaval and sweets in lunch. It was an embarrassment for the CM as well party top leaders it was later revealed that Uike’s house had no toilet.
However, it was a great moment for Kamal Singh Uike, a tribal BJP worker, when party’s national president Amit Shah had lunch at his hutment as part of the ruling party’s outreach to “socially-oppressed” classes.
Uike had latter clarified in letter the same day that his family members either used toilet constructed for his brother or the community toilet.
Bhopal, the second cleanest city in the country as per ministry of urban development survey, was declared an open defecation free city in January this year, though many like Uike and his brother still do not have a toilet at their house.
