Bhopal: High Court on Tuesday directed the State Government and Department of Medical Education (DME), “to maintain the status of NRI quota seats in PG counseling” as it exists today till the next date of hearing fixed for May 3. The State Government is conducting counseling for admissions to PG Courses of Medical and Dental Colleges, the 2nd round of which was to conclude on April 30. The government framed Admission Rules 2019 under which in the 2nd round 15 per cent seats reserved for NRI students were to be converted and surrendered to general pool.

The order came on the petition filed by Association of Private Medical Colleges, Madhya Pradesh, which challenged the proposed action of the State Government of converting and surrendering their 15 per cent NRI category seats into general category seats, for open general category students. Advocate Siddharth Radhelal Gupta, appearing on behalf of Association of private medical colleges, said that 15 per cent NRI quota is the reserve of private Medical Colleges.
