Bhopal: Last rites of Prem Singh Chouhan, father of former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, were performed in his native village Jait on Sunday. He was ailing for long time and was admitted to Bansal Hospital in Bhopal from where he was shifted to Leelawati Hospital in Mumbai where he breathed his last on Saturday. The body was taken to his native village Jait from his residence here at Saket Nagar. Prime minister Narendra Modi expressed grief at the demise of Chouhan’s father and sent Narendra Singh Tomar as his representative to Bhopal to attend the last rites. President Ramnath Kovind, Rajnath Singh, Smriti Irani, Amit Shah, Sushma Swaraj, Ramlalji talked to bereaved Chouhan and expressed their condolences.
Chouhan lit the funeral pyre at the crematorium on the banks of the river Narmada. Tomar, leader of opposition Gopal Bhargaw, MP Rakesh Singh, minister P C and many BJP leaders were present at the last rites. A number of people from Bhopal, Obaidullahganj, Mandideep and Budhni participates in the last rites. Earlier in the morning, chief minister Kamal Nath visited CHouhan’s house here and paid his his last respect to the departed soul. MLA Vishwas Sarang, Mayor Alok Sharma, Kailash Vijaiwargiya former CM Digvijaya Singh and many ministers and among the politicians who visited Chouhan’s residence and expressed their condolences to the bereaved family.
