Bhopal: Congress has removed Arun Yadav and appointed Kamal Nath as its state unit chief presenting him as the party’s face for the state assembly elections. Member of Parliament Jyotiraditya Scindia has been given command of election campaign committee Congress, in order to balance caste equations and regional aspirations, also appointed four working presidents.

They are Jeetu Patwari, Ramnivas Rawat, Bala Bachchan and Surendra Chaudhary. Former CM Digvijay Singh, leader of opposition, AjaySingh, former state president Suresh Pachauri and Yadav have not yet been assigned any responsibility. Kamalnath’s name was being considered for some months for commanding the party in the elections butthere was lack of consensus on this issue.

Kamalnath, who has been a Union minister in the UPA government, was elected MP from Chhindwara for the ninth times in 2014. It is said that Digvijay was instrumental in Kamalnath’s appointment. Yadav, who was state party chief for more than four years, was considered to be weak from the Assembly elections point of view.

The party lost several elections under his leadership. Kamal Nath is said to have a good standing in Mahakaushal region. His becoming state chief has posed a big problem before the BJP. The working presidents Rawat and Patwari, belong to OBC category while Choudhary belongs to ST category and Bachchan represents tribals. Their appointments have been made to give representation to Malwa, Nimar, Bundelkhand and Chambal regions.

Will work with courage and coordination: Kamalnath

Kamalnath, after his appointment as state chief, said he would work with commitment, courage and coordination and give his best to ensure the defeat of the BJP and non-secular forces. Kamalnath also expressed his gratitude towards Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi. CM greets: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan greeted Kamalnath on Twitter. Chouhan wrote, ‘MitraKamalnathKo Pradesh AdhyakshBanane Par HardikBadhai’ (Hearty Congratulations to friend Kamalnath for becoming state president).
