BHOPAL: A massive fire gutted a junk godown late on Thursday night in Nariyalkheda area of Gautam Nagar locality here. The fire which broke out due to unknown reasons was doused by the fire fighters after about four hours of effort.

According to Gautam Nagar police, as per the locals, the fire broke out at around 1.30 am at a junkyard godown owned by Rauf Ali. The residents living nearby the godown came to know about the fire after feeling immense heat while they were asleep. They came out of their homes only to see huge flames coming out of the adjoining godown.

A case has been registered against unknown persons after a complaint was lodged by the owner of the godown. No loss of lives was reported and the loss of property was being analysed, the police said. Speaking to The Free Press Journal, representative of the fire department Iftekhar said about six fire tenders and 40 staffers were involved in dousing the fire.

“The fire was so massive that initially all the six fire tenders went dry after which they undertook about 40 rounds to refill the water tankers. It was finally doused after four hours but the whole process was completed by noon on Friday. The fire tenders faced some problems reaching the site considering the narrow and congested lanes in the locality,” added Iftekhar.
