BHOPAL: SC, ST welfare minister Gyan Singh, who has been elected to Lok Sabha from Shahdol is not in a mood to resign his ministership.

At the inauguration ceremony of residential Gurukulam for tribal children at Bawadia Kalan on Wednesday, in the presence of CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Gyan Singh said he would not resign his ministerial job and serve the people for another one-and-a-half years. He resigned from the membership of Vidhan Sabha on December 5 and can continue as minister latest up to June 5. He will have to resign from the ministry before that date.

Gyan Singh’s son Shivnarayan Singh has been elected MLA from the Bandhavgarh assembly constituency vacated by him. Sources say Gyan Singh wants that his son should be a minister – a demand the CM is unwilling to accept, given the fact that Shivnarayan is a first-timer MLA. And that is why Gyan Singh is now insisting that he will continue as minister. Chouhan had discussed the issue with Singh during his Umaria visit but at that time too he had refused to resign.

CM takes class of tribal kids

Shivraj Singh Chouhan took a class of the capital’s first residential school for tribal children. He gave them tips on personality development. He told them the stories of Rishi Dhaumya and his disciple Aruni, of Arjun’s single-minded devotion to his objective and of Yudhisthir’s commitment to truth. He said excellent arrangements have been made for the children in the school, which will admit 80 per cent tribal and 10 per cent each general and SC students. Department’s principal secretary Ashok Shah said six such residential schools would be opened in the state.
