Income tax raids on bookies have uncovered an unaccounted income to the tune of Rs 50 crore. The investigation is still on and the figure is expected to increase, said the I-T sources. A betting racket was busted by the Bhopal police that had international links. The money engaged in betting crossed the figures beyond police’ expectations and income tax department sleuths were called to conduct an intensive probe.
Income tax department raided premises of 11 bookies across the city and found unaccounted income of more than Rs 50 crore. Incriminating documents in large numbers have been seized by the IT department. An amount of Rs 5.5 lakh cash and gold and silver biscuit worth Rs 7 lakhs were found at one of the places raided by IT team on Monday. The search that started on Sunday concluded on Monday except on the one premises.
I-T and police teams are in search of key figure behind the betting racket. Sources say that considering international links help from Interpol could be solicited and a look out notice could be issued. The betting racketeers used to book huge amounts on IPL cricket matches and used latest techniques including mobile phones, mobile applications to run their racket.
