Displaced hawkers from New Market have now approached the election commission and demanded protection from municipal corporation authorities. A group of about dozen hawkers reached the election commission office on Wednesday and submitted their memorandum to the CEO. They said that about 50 hawkers who have been displaced from the New Market area have been running their roadside shops for past three decades.
Now the officials of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation and some representatives of the New Market Union have in a planned manner displaced them. This has created a crisis of survival for the family of these vendors. The delegation has urged the election commission to make provision for them under Jivika Sanrakshan evam Path Vikray Viniyaman Adhiniyam 2014 at New Market. The delegation has also urged the commission to conduct a probe to find out why shop keepers charge Rs 500-1000 from vendors. They alleged that a nexus of shop owners charge money from them to allow them to sit there.
