Bhopal: Governor Anandiben Patel has advocated the use of EVMs (Electronic Voting Machine) in elections in a programme organized on National Voters Day held at Minto Hall on Friday. She said that use of EVMs have made conduction of elections easy. Earlier the electoral process was cumbersome- ballot papers were printed and then carried to faraway places where even the roads did not exist. Horses, carts and foot soldiers were required at various levels to register voices of democracy.
The election commission is committed to conduct free and fair election in our nation and it has successfully been able to do it, said Governor. She said that awareness among voters has increased a lot. More women are coming forward not only just to vote but also to contest elections.
Patel said that Indian democracy is termed as World’s greatest because here women got their voting rights – right from the beginning whereas countries like America granted voting rights to women after protests and movements in their countries.
Governor feted officers who performed their duties well during the assembly elections 2018. She also distributed certificates and awards to prize winners of various programmes conducted for voters awareness programmes.
