Bhopal: The State Cabinet, on Wednesday, cleared three important bills to be tabled in the Vidhan Sabha. The most ambitious one is ‘MP Economically Weak and Low Income Group Housing Guarantee Bill’, which has been drafted with an eye on the 2018 assembly elections.
The government intends to provide land to all poor families in the state for construction of houses. The land will be provided for free or at concessional rates.The bill guarantees 25 sqm house or 45 sqm free plot in municipal corporation areas and 60 sqm plot in other areas. Family has been defined as husband/wife, their minor children and unmarried children below the age of 25. As soon as an unmarried person gets married, he will come under the definition of a family.
Minister for parliamentary affairs Narottam Mishra told newspersons that the bill guarantees land for housing to all. At places where government land is not available, land will be bought by the government for distribution. He said that Madhya Pradesh will be the first government ‘in the world’ to make such a provision.
The cabinet also cleared the VAT Amendment Bill, which will bring unregistered traders and businessmen under VAT. The bill also seeks to lay down a maximum period of one year for appeal in VAT cases. The cabinet also cleared a legislation to exempt the chairpersons of nine corporations, boards and commissions from the purview of office of profit.
Once the bill becomes a law, the offices of chairpersons of Seeds and Farm Development Corporation, Madhya Pradesh Nirdhan Varg Kalyan Ayog, Krishak Kalyan Ayog, Bundelkhand Development Authority, Mahakaushal Development Authority, Vyapar Samvardhan Salahkar Mandal, Matyasa Kalyan Board and Kukkut Vikas Nigam will no longer be considered as offices of profit.
