Bhopal: The water logging during rains is one of the problems city residents are cursed to face year after year. However, there are areas where the problem arises not due to imperfect drainage system but because of encroachment. A nullah which passes through Palakmati Parisar Colony near Nehru Nagar Square has shops over it. The nullah is hardly cleaned ever, which leads to accumulation of waste inside it.
When it rains, the nullah starts overflowing and reaches the entry gate of the campus.
Society’s resident Chandrashekhar Billore said the water which got accumulated near the colony also entered the society which created problems for residents. “In case there is heavy rain, the water logging bothers us the most,” he said.
Similar views were expressed by another resident Hariharan who said the potholes which developed during rains spilled water near the entry gate, which gradually turned into cesspools. The nullah located near the society added to the problem as it started emanating putrid smell owing to accumulation of waste inside it, he added.
Society’s resident Rupesh Kapadia said water logging on the road and near the colony was a big headache for all every time it rained hard. On the top of that the stench emanating from the nullah owing to water overflow from it added to the problem. The nullah, if cleaned properly during rains might prove to be a solution, he added.
Another resident Vishal Kapadia said the nullah had shops running over it which was why it was not cleaned properly. “The rain water enters into it and water starts spilling on the road. It accumulates on the road and creates a situation that we find it difficult to even walk out without getting mired in muck,” added Kapadia.
