Bhopal: “Election Commission of India have set ahe target to get the 80 per cent polling in the 2018 assembly elections,” chief election officer (CEO) VL Kantha Rao told media in Bhopal on Monday. Kantha Rao added that polling percentage was 67 percent in 2003, in the year 2008 it increased to 69 percent and in 2014 year it increased to 72.6 percent, “Now we have to increase it to 80 per cent”.
He added that 10 media have been identified to increase polling percentages, “At least one vehicle with the information, education and communication material will tour each of the 230 assembly constituencies.” He added that as per the ECI guideline of the conducting elections, many instructions have been given to the field officers since June.
“Road transport authorities have removed 1004 hooters, number plates and sirens from the vehicles and have collected Rs 9.67 lakh in penalty. During the drive the highest numbers of cases were filed in Morena district -195 and in Sidhi 176,” he informed. From August 17 to 24, transport department had recovered Rs 29.90 lakh in penalty.
The department had imposed a penalty of Rs 10.48 lakh on 30 vehicles that were found plying without permit and in other activities the department had collected a penalty of Rs 8.70 lakh from 882 cases. Police have served 1282 non bailable warrant and 5630 non-bailable warrant in last week.
Police have raided 398 places and seized 17,752 litres of illegal liquor, since the month of June to till date the police had conducted 3,018 raids and have seized 1,16,086 litres of illegal liquor. Till date 55,757 weapons had been verified and 9,382 weapons had been deposited in the police stations.
From August 16, to 22nd MP excise department have conducted 1573 raids and seized 44,097 litres of illegal liquor worth Rs 20.75 lakh and have seized seven vehicle worth Rs 2.19 lakh. In Khargon the department had seized liquor worth Rs 5.32 lakh and in Chindawara the department had seized liquor worth Rs 2.76 lakh.

CEC OP Rawat and his team will hold a meeting with political parties followed by a meeting with CEO and nodal officers of law and order, on Tuesday. On the same day he will hold a meeting with the divisional commissioners, range inspector general, collectors and SPs. On Wednesday, he will again meet with the divisional commissioners, range inspector general, collectors and SPs. Later he will hold a meeting with the nodal officers- related with election expenditures. In the evening the team will leave for New Delhi.
