Bhopal: The election campaigning for Bhopal Lok Sabha seat, which has become the hottest seat across the country, concluded on Friday. Among the constituencies going to the polls on Sunday, Bhopal seat has grabbed a lot of attention after the BJP pitted Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, an accused in Malegaon bomb blast case, against former chief minister Digvijaya Singh. As campaigning drew to a close on Friday, the two rival candidates geared up to give a final push to woo the voters and capture the coveted seat.
Digvijaya Singh did campaigning in Hujur and South-West assembly areas while Pragya did road show in Narela and Hujur assembly areas. She addressed employees in front of Mantralaya. Former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan too did campaigning in Idgah Hills and Nehru Nagar areas of the city for Pragya. Singh got around 50 days for election campaigning while Pragya merely got 25 days for it as her candidature was announced much later. The high-voltage electioneering for the May 12 polls saw the ruling Congress and the BJP field a galaxy of stars and their national leaders.
Singh’s campaigning was done by people like Shatrughan Sinha, Swara Bhaskar, Javed Akhtar, Chattisgarh CM Bhupesh Baghel, Swamii Agnivesh, Hardik Patel, Navjot Siddhu and Chagan Bhujbal. BJP national president Amit Shah did road show for Pragya. Besides, defence minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Nitin Gadkari, Prakash Javdekar, Rakesh Sinha and other leaders too joined her campaigning. With the campaigning coming to an end, the followers of both the candidates are reviewing the preparations made for polling. With BJP fielding Pragya, and Singh having inclination towards Muslims, the elections in the parliamentary constituency has taken a religious colour. Singh had given many statements on Pragya and she also considers him responsible for her tortures. Singh, who is contesting any election after a gap of 16 years, has devoted his all energy for winning Bhopal seat. Although, Pragya did not get much time than Singh for election campaigning, but she has made full efforts for her victory. RSS too is strongly backing Pragya.
