BHOPAL: The decision of All India Congress Committee (AICC) of not sending its representative in TV debates for a month was taken on the basis of a letter sent by Congress candidate from Bhind, Devashish.  Devashish had written to Rahul Gandhi on May 25 after announcement of poll results, stating that 95% debates on TV channels are based on BJP’s propaganda.  Devashish had quit Bahujan Samaj Party during assembly polls and joined Congress.

His letter had such an impact that Congress national media committee chairman Randeep Surjewala on Thursday conveyed the decision of Rahul Gandhi of not sending representatives in TV debates for one month.  The instructions of Surjewala have become effective in Madhya Pradesh too. Chief Minister’s media coordinator has informed its state spokespersons not to attend any TV debate.
