Bhopal: Results of class 10 of last five years show that the remedial measures taken by school education department have failed to improve results. According to experts the officers designed a mechanism to improve the numbers rather than work to bring a change in things on ground. This year the result was 61.32% which is 5.22% low compared to 2018 when 66.54% of students were declared pass. Before understanding the dip in result this year, it is necessary to see that in 2017 the result was 49.86%.
The credit of sudden improvement of result by 16.68% between 2017 and 2018 was given to formula cleverly designed by officials of the school education department in which marks of best five only were counted in the result. After improved results of 2017, board decided to implement NCERT syllabus in high school. All books and syllabus was changed. Teachers had to undergo training for new books and syllabus. An official said that about Rs 40 crore was spent on training of teachers. Most of the officials still site Right to Education and ‘no exam system’ up to class 8 as the main reason for poor result of class 10. Students are allowed to fail till class 8 because of the RTE norms thus they lag behind in studies. Then suddenly they face pressure in class 9 and perform even more poorly in class 10, said a teacher. A high level meeting is being organised on Thursday to review the results and to discuss the strategy to improve the results.
