BHOPAL: Call it demonetisation effect if you like, but the revenue receipts of Bhopal Development Authority (BDA) in the last fiscal (2016-17) were about one-fourth of the projections. In its budget estimates for 2016-17, BDA had hoped to earn Rs 601 crore but the revised estimates put the total revenue receipts at just Rs 152 crore.

BDA had estimated it would earn Rs 16.73 crore from sale of plots in the last fiscal but could get just Rs 2.56 crore. It had projected an income of Rs 153 crore from sale of houses but the actual figure turned out to be just Rs 45.49 crore. Similarly, as against the estimated Rs 87 crore income from sale of office and commercial complexes, the actual income was a niggardly Rs 9.32 crore.

The Board of Directors of the BDA, at its meeting here on Friday, approved the annual budget for the fiscal year 2017-18. The BDA hopes to earn Rs 523.78 crore in the next fiscal. Its total expenses have been projected at Rs 523.18 crore, showing an excess of income over expenditure of Rs 60 lakh.

Om Yadav, chairman of the BDA said the organisation was concentrating on completing the existing schemes. “Over the last one-and-a-half-years, we have not taken up any new scheme,” he said. The chairman said providing affordable housing to the people was the key objective of the BDA. “We are selling 2 BHK units for Rs 10 lakh and 1 BHK units for Rs 5 lakh,” he said.

He said in the last fiscal, BDA had completed work on five major schemes: Barai (1,947 flats), Salaiya (1,104 flats), Misrod Phase–II (500 plots), Lawyers’ chambers and Aerocity (1,250 plots). He said the houses in Barai and Salaiya were ready for possession. The chairman said BDA proposed to build only EWS and LIG flats in future.
