KATNI: Sparrows, which could be seen chirping in every garden till some years back, are on the verge of extinction. The reason is lack of habitat, use of chemical insecticides, environmental imbalance and shortage of food.

To mark World Sparrow Day on March 20, the cycling club of Chicago School, Madhavnagar went out on a cycling expedition to places of natural beauty around to understand the mutual dependence of various species.

The day was celebrated in the school on Sunday. Mohan Nagwani, master trainer of MP Eco-tourism Development Board accompanied the students to the Imalia pond where they were told about the habitat of birds, their food and their behaviour and also how to recognise them by their call.
