Bhopal: Corporator, residents sit on dharna over inadequate water supply

Bhopal: Miffed over inadequate water supply at her ward, Municipal corporator Manphool Singh Meena and a number of residents staged a protest in front of zone office here on Friday. Ward number 83, corporator staging dharna in front of zone office number 18 said that her ward was facing acute water shortage and despite many complaints the authorities failed to ensure required supply in the area.

I had approached all higher officials of the civic body and even contacted Mayor Alok Sharma over the issue but despite their instructions, water was not supplied to the ward, said the corporator. Seeing no other option, the corporator said that she staged a protest in front of zone office to once again bring to notice of the authorities the problems ward residents are facing.

Meena said that she will continue to protest till the authorities officials assure her of sufficient water supply in her ward. The ward residents who joined corporator in the protest said that their ward lies in the area where Kerwa water was to be supplied from a new pipeline. This made municipal officials to discontinue water supply through tankers.

However, during summer, turned have turned worse as Kerwa water being supplied in the area has failed to meet the requirement of the people, they decried. Water supplied from Kerwa is too less to quench the thirst of entire Kolar area and since the supply of water through tankers has also been withdrawn situation has become more grave, said the aggrieved residents.
