Bhopal: Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday honoured four civilians with Rs 5 lakh each for saving lives of 45 persons from drowning in Sultangarh waterfall of Shivpuri. Chouhan said the four civilians and police constables would be recommended for President’s Jeevanraksha medal. Ramdas, Bhagirath, Nizam Shah and Kallan Batham were honoured for their contribution in saving the lives.
Several people got stuck when water level in Sultangarh waterfall had increased suddenly on August 15. Nine persons were washed away in the incident but the remaining ones were saved after a rescue operation that was launched all night. NDRF, SDRF, police and some local people played a key role in saving the human lives. Chouhan also directed to separately honour three members of State Disaster Relief Force (SDRF).
Chouhan said those who put their own lives in danger to save others are the real heroes of the society. He said good deeds should be appreciated. Chouhan said when he came to know about the incident, he did not sleep and continued taking information about the developments. Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar and sports minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia had visited the spot and supervised the rescue operation.
Chouhan also honoured SDRF, sub-inspector Pradeep Kumar, head constable Rajesh Kumar Yadav, Gajendra Singh Kaurav, district police force, sub-inspector Gopal Chaubey, Surendra Singh Yadav, Amit Sharma and constable Mukesh Sharma. He also announced to give them monetary reward separately.
