Bhopal: City all set to celebrate cleanliness award with various functions

Khargone: Khargone town erupted in joy as soon as it was declared the 17th cleanest city in Swachh Sarvekshan 2017.

The list was based on a massive survey, Swachh Survekshan 2017, rating the cleanliness efforts put in by the municipalities in 500 Indian cities.

Khargone collector Ashok Verma, chief medical officer Nishikant Shukla, Khargone municipal council president Vipin Gour and senior corporator Deepak Chourey received the award.

Entire municipal council employees, officers and people celebrated the feat in style at the municipality office as Khargone received a national award for ‘India’s fastest moving city’ under population of two lakh.

To celebrate the success, a grand felicitation ceremony to honour citizens who made this possible will be organised here at the municipal council town hall on Saturday. According to information, Khargon-Barwani MP Subhash Patel will be the chief guest on the occasion, while Khargone MLA Balkrishna Patidar will chair the function.

Khargone district collector Ashok Kumar Verma, municipal council president Vipin Kumar Gour, chief municipal officer Nishikant Shukla and municipal council health officer Prakash Chitte along with entire sanitation staff were invited to attend the function. BJP ST Morcha state president Gajendra Singh Patel, BJP district president and former MLA Babulal Mahajan, district cooperative central bank chairman Ranjeet Singh Dandir will grace the occasion as special invitees.

Before felicitation ceremony a rally will be taken from Siddhivinayak Ganesh temple to municipal council office.

On Thursday night people celebrated by dancing to drum beats and bursting crackers. Khargone collector Ashok Verma appreciated the municipality team’s work and said every facility will be provided to them to keep the momentum. President of Khargone municipality Vipin Gour said, “We are in the top 20 and it is a tough task to maintain the position but we hope to go further.”

Briefing how Khargone achieved the feat, CMO Nishikant Shukla said, “Three hundred and eight employees and 18 garbage collection vehicles for segregated waste collected an average of 40 tons of solid garbage daily in 33 wards of Khargone.”  “Compactor machines worked at night and collected around 15 tons of garbage a day and transported it to trenching ground which produced compost. More than 100 litterbins, 150 big containers and private dustbins are kept in the city,” Shukla added.
