Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A 40-year-old woman was arrested for stealing gold jewellery worth Rs 3.50 lakh from the house where she worked as maid, Awadhpuri police said on Tuesday. Earlier, she was arrested for stealing a newborn from the hospital.
Police station in-charge told media that the complainant Nilesh Soni, a resident of Somya Park had filed a complaint to the police on July 4, that the jewellery kept in his house was stolen. The family suspected that their maid Anita Bai could have stolen the ornaments.
The maid used to work in the house and she quit on June 15 stating that she is not able to take strain because of her age.
The family members came to know about the missing jewellery on Monday evening (July 4) when they were checking their belongings.
The police added that a team was formed to nab the accused. She had vacated her house and police came to know that she is currently living in Chanakyapuri area.
The team arrested the accused from the roadside and after interrogation, she confessed that she had kept a few of the jewellery in her bag with the major part of it deposited in a private bank. She said that she took out a loan on the basis of the stolen ornaments.
The police have also informed that in the year 2012, she was caught while stealing a newborn. A case of kidnapping was registered and she was convicted for the crime. Recently, she came out of jail and started to be her own self.
