Bhopal: Following the shifting of SIMI chief Safdar Nagori and his accomplices to Bhopal Central Jail on Sunday, the security in and around the jail was further tightened. On Tuesday, DG prisons Sanjay Choudhary issued fresh directives regarding security in jails. Though the directives are meant for all jails, their real aim is to make the security arrangements in Bhopal Central Jail foolproof.
Eight undertrials, with suspected SIMI links, had escaped from the jail in October last year. They were later killed in an alleged encounter by the police. Choudhary has directed that the officers and employees entering the jail on duty should also be thoroughly frisked. He said though there was a ban on taking mobiles inside the jail, it was not being strictly enforced.
He said all persons entering the jail should be frisked and their mobile sets be deposited at the main gate. He has also imposed a complete ban on entry of all official and private vehicles of officers and employees into the jail. Barring vehicles carrying LPG cylinders and food items, no other vehicle would be allowed to enter the jail. It has been ordered that the garbage van entering and leaving the jail premises should also be thoroughly checked. Garbage should not be allowed to collect on the jail premises as it can be used for hiding objectionable things.
