Bhopal: The cash-strapped state government has decided to sell liquor as much as possible to fill in its coffers. Aspart of the scheme, the government plans to do home delivery of liquor the way Swiggy and UberEats deliver eatables at home so that the tippler smay get the brand of their choice sitting home.The excise department has already sent a proposal for it to commercial tax minister Brajendra Singh Rathore.
After some amendments in the excise policy, the proposal would be put up before the cabinet, and afterits nod, the shops will begin home delivery at divisions.According to the proposal,the contractors of the shops that sell foreign made liquor will get permission to do home delivery.
But to get such contract,they have to pay 5%of extra charge.Besides, the government is all set to bring a proposal to open new liquor shops for extra income. For backdoor entry of the new liquor shops, the contract or swill be given permission in the name of their sub-outlets.
The contractor of the liquor shops can set up their shops in areas identified by them so that people can get liquor near their homes.During the 13-year rule of Shivraj Singh Chouhan, no new liquor shop was set up in the state, but as soon as the Congress government took over, it began to open wine outlets to boost revenue.
Another reason for allowing the liquor contractors to open shops is said to be the government’s attempt to woo the liquor lobby.Sources in the government said that liquor barons have played an important role in forcing the government to take up the above two proposals.
