Where there is a will there is a way, is the adage political candidates are following to lure the voters. They have devised way to distribute liquor among their supporters without coming in the eyes of the election observers. A paltry Rs 10 currency note or a ‘slip’ carrying a name of film is what it needs to get a bottle of liquor. If one is ‘lucky’ enough, he might get a ‘slip’ with validity covering entire election period.
When it comes to freebies ahead of the polls, liquor is the most sought after among men electorates. However, the election observers and other law enforcement agencies are keeping strict vigil in the sale, transportation and distribution of the liquor in the poll-bound state.
Though it has become difficult to distribute liquor among the voters without being caught, however, the candidates and their supports have come up with different schemes to oblige the voters to seek their favour. At some places, candidates are giving a Rs 10 rupee note of a same series to public which when presented before the liquor vendor would fetch them a bottle.
The currency series is registered with liquor vendor and as soon anyone present the note of the particular series, the shopkeeper hand him over a bottle. This practice is going in the urban areas under the very nose of the law enforcement agencies.
In the rural area, since the area is vide and it is not feasible to distribute currency note, the candidates have come up with a different idea. Here they are handing over a slip carrying names of certain films, which is a code. The voters are required to give the slip to liquor shop to get a bottle. These slips are of two types, one of the codes stated one-time use, while second type of slip has validity for the entire election period.
