Bhopal: City crime branch of police on Friday busted a gang of burglars and arrested four men who have confessed to committing at least 11 burglaries in locked houses in different localities of the city. The police also recovered valuables including three cars, gas cylinders, electronic items and others worth Rs 14 lakh.

According to the police, accused identified Shoaib Khan, 24, Manish Gajbhiye, 23, Ajay Thakur, 22 and Santkumar Yadav, 30, were arrested after the police received a tip-off. On Thursday the police got input that a suspicious looking man who was later identified as Khan, was trying to sell an LPG cylinder at a throwaway price after parking his car near Barkhedi Road here.

Based on the input, the police rounded him up and questioned about the gas cylinder on which he failed to give any justification and later confessed to have stolen it during a burglary. He was later arrested and during interrogation he informed the police about the involvement of his other three accomplices who were arrested and two others Ishtiyak and Akram who are absconding.

“During the interrogation the accused told that they used to roam around in colonies of the city including Chuna Bhatti, Kolar, Shahpura, Bagsewaniya and others in the stolen cars to check houses which they found to be locked. After identifying such houses they would come late in night in the cars to commit burglary in them,” said DIG, RS Sikarwar while addressing a press conference at police control room here.

He said Khan told the police that he was planning to get married and was doing the burglaries to gather home appliances and other required items to settle his married life.

“The accused used to keep the valuables in the house of Yadav, who would then eventually dispose them of by selling them at cheap rates. The valuables were recovered from his place only. The police after booking the arrested accused under relevant sections of IPC have launched a manhunt to nab the absconding ones,” added Sikarwar.
