Bhopal: The recent inspection of municipal commissioner Chhavi Bhardawaj after which contractual employees and drivers were either suspended or removed is more than what meets the eye. The top officials who are feigning ignorance in the case and got away shifting blames on their subordinates too should be blamed for the massive irregularities prevalent in the corporation.

The corporation has supplied diesel to the vehicle of an official who was not on duty in the period which triggers questions as who was then using the vehicle or for what purpose the aforesaid vehicle was used. Former city engineer AK Nanda who was on deputation and went back six months back had official vehicle Bolero jeep (MP 04 CP 0455). The corporation kept filling the tank of vehicle even in the months of May, June and July when the officer was not on the post.

In these three months around 873 litres of diesel was filled in the fuel tank of Nanda for which assistant engineer of transport department had also given his consent. The irregularity was revealed in an RTI filed by activist Ajay Patidar who claims the scam will come out as the second largest after Vyapam, if all the details he has sought is provided by the corporation.

It is questionable as who allowed the fuel being released in the name of an officer which is not serving at the time. If the vehicle was transferred in the name of any other officer then how come the diesel is shown in the name of Nanda, for three consecutive months?Patidar also says officials are issued more diesel than their daily quota and that it was not possible without their consent.

The average consumption of diesel has been more than what they deserve or are designated, says the activist adding they should also produce details of their visit in which they consumed the extravagant diesel.
